PPM won this prestigious job on an open-tender basis where the scope was to convert office spaces within the hotels main reception area into a premium outlet for Sixt.

We were selected to deliver the project because of the demanding timescales– just 5 weeks to plan and execute the build - and because the build environment was fraught with Health & Safety risks that they needed confidence would be correctly managed. The works were taking place within the open reception area of the hotel at the same time as a visit of a former President of the United States.  Therefore the mix of security, the risk to the public, coupled with the tight timescales, meant Sixt required surety of build, safety and management.

To further complicate matters, The “Association of Car Rental Companies” were holding their annual meeting in the Hotel on the day after works were scheduled to finish. Sixt were therefore adamant that the shop would not only be open, but perfect.

In addition, the need to satisfy the Hilton that the works would be safe and in compliance with their own H&S, COSHH requirements etc, made the planning of works and the procurement and demonstration of acceptable materials a real challenge in the timescale that was allowed.

As with all PPM works, our team developed a fully scheduled program of works from which we developed detailed pre-start RAMS and risk assessment. We then tied material procurement and lead-times into the program together with COSHH assessments so that we could satisfy the Hilton Group that we were both meeting their exacting requirements on materials, but that we had a planned method of managing the build environment with full H&S and minimal disruption to their clients.

All works were audited at random times by both Hilton Group and Sixt H&S department and all audits were passed first time with a “Commendation” from the Hilton Group for our management of site H&S and comment was made about how our “build and program management was exactly in line with our pre-start schedule”.  All works were fully completed on time including last-minute additional variation work and was opened on time, defect free and right-first time.
